LZO/LZOP Fanpage
LZOP is a command-line compression program - an alternative to compress, zip, gzip, bzip2, lzma....

Unfortunately it is still much less popular than the mentioned programs. I made this site available, because I think it should become generally accepted besides the popular ones and also being distributed with all well known operating systems. Regarding compression/decompression-SPEED this program definitely kicks ass !
If you need a utility for compressing large amounts of data in reasonable time, you will have a hard time to find one which is better and as portable !!!
Try lzop - you will get impressed !

You still don`t trust me ?

Just take a look at some nice article from Linux Journal called "Compression Tools Compared"

Here`s some quotationi from that article:

"lzop often is the fastest tool. It finishes about three times faster than gzip but still compresses data almost as much. It finishes about a hundred times faster than lzma and 7za. Furthermore, lzop occasionally decompresses data even faster than simply copying it! Use lzop on the command line as a filter with the backup tool named tar:

$ tar c a/dir | lzop - > backup.tar.lzo

Perhaps this site will add some popularity for LZOP - so give it a try :)

NEWS:

Cologne, 2008-12-30
LZOP 1.02rc1 exists since 2005-07-25 now. That`s more than 3 years. On www.lzop.org, the author states that there has not been any problem report. I don`t also know of any problems. Since lzop project seems pretty dead and the author appears a little bit uncommunicative about lzop to me, i`m provocatively doing a fork and hereby i`m releasing lzop-1.02-stable. Besides the version number, there is no difference between 1.02rc1 and 1.02. You can download the stable version here

As this list has grown to a large number of projects and it`s not worth further extending it due to really widespread usage of lzo compression, as of 26.12.2008 i stop adding more links actively. Use http://www.koders.com/ to find further projects which are using lzo/lzop.
